Believing in Yourself Post Retirement
How many times have you heard the statement, “Believe in Yourself?” At least a thousand times or more. But how many times do you actually think about what this means, really means? I always thought it simply meant to have confidence in whatever I was doing. To visualize the action, to believe I could do it, and then it would somehow manifest itself. Well, that’s partly true, but there is a little more to it than that. You will find this extremely important after you retire and your complete identity changes.
“Believing in yourself is to appreciate your own intrinsic value.”
To understand that who you are is unique, there is no one on earth exactly like you. That everything about you is rare, from your fingerprints to your own individual thoughts. When you understand that who you are has value, you begin to see yourself in an entirely different light. Your ability to embody this concept will help you visualize and believe in the power of the energy you bring to this world. This is critically important in Retirement.
For example, when you were working, you and your fellow employees may have had the same job, but the value you brought was different from Joe’s or Josephine that sat next to you. Although others may do what you did, they could never do it the way that you did it because you brought a whole other dimension to the project. Take a look at the way two people cook the same exact dish, same exact recipe, but somehow they just don’t taste the same. Each cook brings something different, some new twist, that changes the taste. I must admit that I had a bit of difficulty understanding this concept for a very long time, but this is the point! What you have and who you are is unique, different from everyone else. Your presence on this planet has it’s own mapping, embrace it, enjoy it, love it!
So, as you enter into this new phase called Retirement, that everybody in the world can’t wait to get to. And you find that you have all this new time on your hands, ask yourself this, what do I bring to this life? What is my unique perspective? I assure you, you have one. Give yourself a break, know this is normal to feel this way and relax. Spend some time figuring out what you bring to this world that no one else brings and if you need help, let me know. That’s what I do, that’s the value I bring.
